Blazing Star Arts show, “Nature In Glass,” opens June 4 and benefits the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Center

Blazing Star Arts has been invited by the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area to present “Nature In Glass,” a show and sale of original fused glass artwork at the Santa Monica Mountains Interagency Visitor Center. A portion of every sale from the show, which begins June 4, benefits the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Center.

Artists Sue Wolhaupter of Agoura Hills, and Bonnie Quintanilla of Westlake Village, created nearly 100 original works inspired primarily by the local mountains and seashore. The community is invited to a Meet the Artists Reception on June 8 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The show runs through Saturday, June 29.

“We are delighted to showcase the unique artwork of Blazing Star Arts, which captures the beauty and diversity of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area and Chanel Islands National Park,” said Sophia Wong, Store and Events Manager, Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. “This is the first time we’ve dedicated a show to fused glass, a style that brings light and energy to art, as part of our ongoing art program that helps raise funds for our programs.”

There are approximately 50 pieces of fine art created exclusively for this exhibit, including several sculptural pieces and Mini Masterpieces, smaller works of art made with the same passion and detail as the larger pieces. The artists also designed and created several pieces of functional artwork using the Fossil Vitrea technique to fuse leaves from Valley Oak Trees into the glass. Additionally, the artists designed a limited line of dimensional jewelry inspired by the area’s mountains, plants, and ocean.

Santa Monica Mountains Interagency Visitor Center is located at 26876 Mulholland Highway in Calabasas, Calif., 91302. The exhibit is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
